THE CHALLENGE IN ADDISON COUNTY
Like much of the United States, Addison County lacks sufficient high-quality, affordable child care, which impacts our most vulnerable citizens—our children—and severely hinders the ability of local and regional employers to recruit and retain a qualified workforce.

The nonprofit child care advocacy organization Let’s Grow Kids estimates in its most recent report that in Addison County 471 infants and 240 toddlers are likely to need care. However, current capacity can provide slots for only 148 infants and 111 toddlers leaving gaps of 323 and 129 for infants and toddlers, respectively. The report also shows an estimated need for 148 additional preschool spots to meet demand.
The overall stress on the existing programs makes staff retention an ongoing challenge. Existing facilities are typically small, awkward retrofits of former residences, not candidates for meaningful expansion. To increase stability and predictability of service to families across the region, the time has come to build a new facility to better serve future generations in Addison County.
